Engineered Hardwood vs Solid Hardwood

The Differences:

  • Solid hard wood flooring is as it sounds, solid 100% real flooring. It is normally slightly more expensive than engineered hard wood.
  • Engineered is normally a less expensive option and has a small amount of real hardwood on the surface with a plywood base.

The Advantages

  • Solid hardwood is often very easy to clean, has a slightly nicer look in many people’s opinions, and is a great long term investment due to its ability to get sanded down multiple times.
  • Engineered hard wood is much stronger, is very resistant to scratching, and does not take in as much moisture as solid hardwood.

Our thoughts: We get asked almost every single day whether we prefer engineered hardwood flooring or solid hardwood flooring. At this time we always recommend engineered hardwood flooring mainly due to its resistance to scratching.
