A big “thank you” to all that visited our 2016 Fall Parade Home this past October! We would like to congratulate Kate Nawrot as the winner of our recent Facebook contest. She will be receiving a $150 Lowe’s gift card. A big thanks to Kate and all who attended the Parade of Homes. We look forward to seeing you at the Spring Parade!
We recently broke ground on another available home in the beautiful new community of Summerset South in Grandville. This home is planned to be one of two projects we will feature in the 2017 Spring Parade of Homes. It boasts just under 3,000 square feet and has 4 bedrooms and 2-1/2 baths. Stay tuned for more details and to check out the ongoing progress of the build!
Our very own on-site cabinetry shop creates custom and handcrafted pieces for every home we build. This custom range hood is just another example of the innovative and unique details our designers create to make each home special for our clients.
This hood will receive a custom faux-finish made to look like weathered metal that will coordinate with the other design elements planned for this spec home kitchen in the Manchester Hills neighborhood. Check back soon to see photos of the finished product!
Last week our team had the opportunity to give back to the community. We sent two groups of Engelsma Homes team members out into the community to help with two different neighborhood projects.
Throughout the year we dedicate 2-4 afternoons to road cleanup in the Standale area. We are always astounded at the amount of trash that is collected each trip.
As a member of the Greater Grand Rapids Home Builders Association, we also try to participate in projects through Home Repair Services of Kent County. They work to provide ramps to homeowners who are wheelchair bound, and are not able to afford one otherwise.
We feel blessed to have the opportunity to serve our city and community in these ways.

A recent new build located in the wonderful river front River Bluffs community, pairs transitional design with traditional charm. The friendly blue exterior stands out among the wooded river-side setting. Its open concept kitchen is warm and inviting while still feeling crisp and modern with the all white design. Check out the photos below to see all the unique details!
Engineered Hardwood vs Solid Hardwood
- Solid hard wood flooring is as it sounds, solid 100% real flooring. It is normally slightly more expensive than engineered hard wood.
- Engineered is normally a less expensive option and has a small amount of real hardwood on the surface with a plywood base.
- Solid hardwood is often very easy to clean, has a slightly nicer look in many people’s opinions, and is a great long term investment due to its ability to get sanded down multiple times.
- Engineered hard wood is much stronger, is very resistant to scratching, and does not take in as much moisture as solid hardwood.
Our thoughts: We get asked almost every single day whether we prefer engineered hardwood flooring or solid hardwood flooring. At this time we always recommend engineered hardwood flooring mainly due to its resistance to scratching.

A recent trend in new home construction is the modern take on the farmhouse look. This monochromatic aesthetic combines creamy, all-white exteriors with pops of contrasting black through window colors, roof shingles and other exterior detailing such as metal brackets. Industrial touches throughout both the interior and exterior help bring a classic farmhouse look into the 21st century.
This recent new-build located in Ada achieved this look with a custom white siding that was inspired by a family friend’s barn. The modern farmhouse look was archived with their use of board and batten siding and custom metal brackets.
Check out this truly unique custom home!
We had a very enjoyable experience working with Engelsma Homes. We liked how the team kept us informed of any changes on the schedule as soon as they happened and how they kept their deadlines. We also liked their team and their work ethics. The results speak for themselves.Selene
What I like best about Engelsma Homes is that they honestly care about customer satisfaction. Their team did whatever it took to ensure our happiness, even years after our house was built. They truly take pride in what they do.Mike
GREAT — that is how we would sum up our building experience with Englesma Homes. Right away we witnessed estimated pricing was available very early in the talking stage, plus, as we asked for pricing on additional options we saw the cost the next business day. Construction went smoothly start to finish, the quality is top notch and we are thrilled with our Englesma Home. Their entire staff was professional and the assistance we received from their interior decorator was an enormous help. We would certainly recommend and use Englesma Homes for our next building project.Don and Mary
